Southern Care Lawn and Pest offers an effective Moisture Manager Program called Hydretain which slows water loss in soils by attracting and holding moisture within soil particles.
Hydretain is a liquid blend of hygroscopic and humectants components. In combination these materials create a sub-surface film which absorbs and stores moisture on plant roots and soil particle surfaces. Hydretain acts like tiny water magnets, making available to plant roots microscopic moisture that would otherwise be lost to evaporation. This simple mechanism results in healthy, vigorous, drought resistant turf, trees, shrubs and ornamental plants.
University research has proven Hydretain’s effectiveness in extending the time between watering of flowering annuals by as much as 50 to 100%. Independent trials have shown Hydretain to be equally effective on foliage plants, woody ornamentals, turf and food producing agriculture.
Visit the Hydretain website for more information on the science behind the treatment.
Lawn aeration involves the removal of small soil plugs or cores out of the lawn. Aeration is done mechanically with a machine having hollow tines or spoons mounted on a disk or drum. Known as a core aerator, the machine extracts 1/2 to 3/4 inch diameter cores of soil and deposits them on your lawn.
Aeration holes are typically 1-6 inches deep and 2-6 inches apart. Core aeration is a recommended lawn care practice on compacted, heavily used turf and to control thatch buildup.
